The picture framing industry uses a wide variety of materials—wood, glass, acrylic, paper, adhesives—all of which can have significant environmental impacts if not sourced and handled responsibly. From deforestation to material waste and pollution, the choices we make as framers directly affect the planet.

That’s why Hogarth is proud to be part of a growing movement that’s rethinking how frames are made, used, and disposed of—without compromising on quality or design.

FSC-Certified Wood Materials & Mouldings

We prioritize the use of wood mouldings that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC ensures that timber comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. By choosing FSC-certified frames, our customers support global efforts to combat deforestation, protect biodiversity, and uphold the rights of forest communities.

Recycled and Recyclable Materials

Where possible, we use recycled mat boards, backing boards, and packaging materials to minimize our environmental impact. Many of our aluminium frames are made from recycled metal, and we are constantly working to source suppliers who share our eco-conscious values.

Our workshop uses precise cutting and measuring techniques to limit offcuts and reduce waste. Any leftover materials are reused for smaller frames or donated to local art education programs. Nothing goes to waste if we can help it.

Low-VOC Finishes and Adhesives

We’ve chosen to use low-VOC, water-based paints and adhesives that are safer for our team, our customers, and the environment. These finishes produce fewer harmful emissions and align with our broader sustainability goals.

Supporting Local & Regional Suppliers

By sourcing materials locally whenever possible, we reduce the environmental impact of long-distance shipping and help sustain smaller, ethical manufacturers who prioritize transparency and sustainability.
